Regional Waste Management Center “Kalenić”

Architectural studio Arhimis prepared the Urban Design Project for the “Kalenić” Regional Waste Management Center – the largest regional waste management center in Serbia, serving 15 local self-government units with a total population of more than half a million people.

The Urban Design Project encompasses the urban and architectural development of the “Kalenić” Regional Waste Management Center complex, one of the most significant infrastructure and environmental projects of its kind in Serbia.

The Regional Center represents a key component of a modern waste management system serving 15 cities and municipalities, providing the conditions for organized and controlled municipal waste management for more than 500,000 residents.

The size and complexity of the complex, the large number of infrastructure systems, and the need to functionally integrate them into a unified spatial whole represented particular challenges in developing the urban planning solution.

Following completion of the legally prescribed procedure, the Urban Design Project was approved by the Spatial Planning and Urbanism Agency of the Republic of Serbia.
